about

The Circuit Breakers is a remote collaboration between various members of Edinburgh's The Wynntown Marshals and their long-time friend and producer Andrew Taylor of Dropkick. This collaborative recording project was spurred on by the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK which began in March 2020.

As we race towards the end of this most surreal of years, here’s an early Xmas present by way of another cover version by The Circuit Breakers' - the collaborative lockdown project featuring various members of Edinburgh's The Wynntown Marshals and their good friend Andrew Taylor from Dropkick.

This time, our intrepid housebound heroes offer an interpretation of the song "Somewhere Else" by Canadian singer/ songwriter Jim Bryson.

The original version appears on Jim's hugely underrated and thoroughly terrific 2003 album "The North Side Benches" - a real favourite in the Marshals' tourvan - whilst another version was also recorded by Kathleen Edwards on her "Back To Me" record from 2005.

lyrics

"Somewhere Else"

I used to look for you out in the daylight
I took highways and side streets and back lanes
Slept under open skies
And life can be cruel
But life can be sweet if I want it to be

The town that I once called home
I just can't hold on to
It's got strip malls and bus-stops and people
I would never really talk to
And she says life could be sweet
But life is so cruel 'cause I let it be

And everybody out here
They wanna live somewhere else
I wish I could find a place
And stay there by myself
And bit by bit I swear I think I'm losing
All this city's confidence

And everybody out here
They wanna live somewhere else
And I wish I could find a place
And stay there by myself
And bit by bit
I swear I think I'm losing all this city's confidence
I swear I've lost
All this city's confidence

about

The Wynntown Marshals Edinburgh, UK

Formed in Edinburgh in 2007, The Marshals tip their hat to The Jayhawks, Wilco, Drive-By Truckers, Tom Petty, Ryan Adams & Neil Young.

Their sound can loosely be described as ‘country rock' with powerpop hooks, but they love layered guitars, catchy choruses and have an unabashed belief in the power of rock music as a storytelling medium.
